Post #87 - Calgary Flames "Blackless"

Here's part 1 of 3 for the Calgary Flames.

YouTube

Home & Away: The home and away jerseys feature a modern take on "traditional" striping, mixing Calgary's slanted-stripe era with a somewhat retro feel, with a modern tweak with the asymmetrical stripes. The numbers on the backs and sleeves are a customized font, a bit wonky, meant to follow the contours of the hem stripes. The shoulder logo is a custom fiery maple leaf.

Third: The third jersey is a very retro-esque red jersey with the "Calgary" script logo. Simplistic, but almost an instant classic.

Alternate: On the other end of things is this Ronald McDonald-looking alternate jersey. I'd hate to see this jersey all the time, but as a once-in-a-while alternate, it might actually work. Drown it with red gear (helmets, gloves, pants), and the yellow might get balanced out.

Alternate: Admittedly, the unique design looks a lot better with black (something you'll see in a future post), but sticking to the "blackless" theme, I decided to use only red and yellow.

Alternate: Finally, the design I love above all others in this set. While seemingly simple at first glance, a lot of thought went into this design beyond the three-stripe look. The biggest challenge was finding a way to use the horse head logo without black or white, something I think I pulled off quite well after a lot of trial and error. The logo (and jersey) features a much darker red, used in part to create a red-to-red gradient on the logo, allowing it to exist on the red jersey without getting lost. The sleeves and hem also feature a similar gradient, with the sleeves featuring what would be a sublimated flame pattern on the inner portion of the sleeves. The numbers, lettering, and stripes also feature a textured pattern, something that's been all the rage over the last few years in professional hockey.
